Facilities
On site, TBSA has two fluid bed incinerators, which not only disposes of their own biosolids, but also that of several other municipalities. TBSA's incineration capabilities continue to provide an in-state biosolids disposal alternatives for municipalities throughout New Jersey.
Plant & Processes:
- Preliminary Treatment: Includes screening at pumping stations and grit removal in the treatment plant
- First Stage Aeration: Removal of carbonaceous components of the wastewater
- Intermediate Settlling: Separation of solids and floatable materials
- Second Stage Aeration: Two conventional air-activated sludge basins which create an environment for nitrification to take place
- Phosphorus Pilot System: Alum injection to specific process locations aiding in the reduction of phosphorus levels
- Final Clarifiers: Further separation of solids and floatable materials
- Mixed Media Filters: Tertiary treatment of the secondary effluent
- Post Aeration: Aeration of the effluent water
- Sodium Hypochlorite Disinfection: Disinfection of the effluent
- Sodium Bisulfite Dechlorination: Removal of excess disinfection
- Effluent: Treated effluent discharged into the Pompton River
- Efficiency: Ninety-five (95%) removal of Carbonaceous BOD and suspended solids are consistently removed
- Ammonia: Less than 0.1 milligrams/liter
Sludge Handling Facility:
- Sludge and Septage receiving facility with odor control
- Gravity Thickener Tanks for sludge thickening
- Belt Filter Presses for sludge dewatering
- Two Fluid Bed Incinerators for biosolids and disposal
- On-site Ash Lagoons provide a containment area for ash to settle before used as landfill cover or for other beneficial purposes
